Round Log ConstructionIn round log construction selected trees are felled and cut to the lengths required. Following this the logs are debarked, and any large knots are removed. Large logs are selected and milled in half for sill logs to form the base layer of the cabin. It is now possible to begin the construction of the cabin walls. ![]() |

This is done by laying logs one on top of another, a tight seal between logs is achieved by scribing the profile of the log bellow onto the log above. This process continues until the log walls have reached the desired height, at this point openings for all doors and windows are cut from the log walls. Next the roof construction begins, this can be either Post and beam, log gable end or log truss. The type of roof structure would depend on the pitch of the roof required and the type of covering that the client desires. |

If the building is being constructed away from its final location, it would at this point be labelled and dismantled in readiness for construction at its final location. Once the building has been reconstructed the floors, doors, windows, roof and ceilings can be fitted. Finally the finishing touches can be added to the building, this would involve the shaping of the log wall ends and the final oiling of the building to protect it from the weather. |

Scribing. This is the process of transferring the contours of one log on to the log that sits above it, to achieve a tight fit once cut. This method ensures that the logs keep their natural shape. |
