The Caynham Mill project is a commission to build our client, George, a holiday cabin on 3 acres of meadow land on the outskirts of Ludlow. George is in the process of setting up a business offering high class, ecologically sound holiday accommodation. This, combined with a passion for trees and timber meant he specifically wanted a handscribed cabin.
For this project we sourced some marvellous 50+ year old douglas fir from a well managed forest in mid Wales. The peeling, carving and construction was carried out in our yard where it was then labelled, dismantled and shipped over to Ludlow for re-assembly.
The cabin designed by George is an all access building with two bedrooms, an open plan kitchen/diner/living room and toilet all on one level. A lot of consideration has been given to the use of outside living space and there are extended covered areas incorporated into the design.
From our point of view, we have wanted to build on our experience from John's cabin on the borders and have wanted to pay particular attention to detail in all aspects of this cabin. George has been receptive to ideas and given us a pretty much free reign.
